The FAA has approved the installation of the THERMACOOL electric air conditioning system on Enstrom 280FX helicopters through the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) held by Kelly Aerospace Thermal Systems.

Innovation extends beyond aircraft performance—it also enhances the pilot experience. Enstrom Helicopter Corporation (Enstrom) is further enhancing the versatility of its 280FX with FAA approval of the Thermacool Electric Air Conditioning system, certified through the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) held by Kelly Aerospace Thermal Systems.

The Thermacool electric air conditioning system provides efficient cockpit cooling designed to improve pilot and passenger comfort, particularly during ground operations and flight in warmer climates.

The newly certified installation gives customers another option to tailor the 280FX to their operational needs while improving cockpit comfort. Combined with the aircraft’s responsive handling, outstanding safety record, and low direct operating costs, the addition reinforces Enstrom’s commitment to continually improving the flying experience.

The certification represents another milestone in the continued evolution of the Enstrom 280FX. Alongside the newly certified air conditioning option, Enstrom is progressing toward FAA certification of its updated fuel system, with additional announcements expected as those efforts are completed.

“This certification is another example of our commitment to continuously improving the ownership experience,” said Chuck Wade, senior vice president of sales, marketing and customer excellence at Enstrom Helicopter Corporation. “While we’re excited to bring this new comfort option to our customers today, it’s just one of several advancements underway for the 280FX. We’re looking forward to sharing additional certification milestones in the months ahead as we prepare to deliver the next generation of 280FX aircraft to customers.”

Enstrom is now accepting orders for new 280FX helicopters, with customer deliveries beginning in October 2026. As the 280FX platform continues to evolve, Enstrom remains committed to delivering reliable, high-performance aircraft through continuous product innovation, providing operators worldwide with enhanced safety, comfort, and operational capability.
