Supplier Quality Engineer

Position:                      Supplier Quality Engineer

Reports To:                 External Supply Chain Manager

Status:                         Exempt

 

 

BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical aspect of our external supply chain needs. This includes reviewing engineering specifications, understanding manufacturing/assembly needs, and working with our in-house engineers to develop solutions for our vendors.

 

ADDITIONAL GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

  • Drive supplier quality performance, including new product development and product quality improvement
  • Review our manufacturing specifications to identify materials needed for production.
  • Research, source, and assess the best vendors to supply the necessary materials.
  • Visit vendor facilities and observe the manufacturing environment to review and assess their procedures.
  • Perform regular quality control audits to ensure vendors continue to work in compliance with company and federal standards.
  • Review incoming supplies and products from vendors to check for defects and ensure quality.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to suppliers to reduce defect rates.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers
  • Promote initiatives to improve quality
  • Serve as a liaison between our engineering department and the vendors to identify quality issues and develop production efficiencies

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering. In lieu of degree minimum 5 years experience as an SQE and 3 years experience in vendor management
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical role
  • Proven experience in manufacturing and working with vendor contracts.
  • Excellent statistical analysis and quality assurance skills.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills with strong attention to detail
  • In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of manufacturing and engineering.
  • Experience with manufacturing and production processes and engineering principles.
  • Ability to provide guidance to improve process efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills
