Supplier Quality Engineer
Position: Supplier Quality Engineer
Reports To: External Supply Chain Manager
Status: Exempt
BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:
As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical aspect of our external supply chain needs. This includes reviewing engineering specifications, understanding manufacturing/assembly needs, and working with our in-house engineers to develop solutions for our vendors.
ADDITIONAL GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:
- Drive supplier quality performance, including new product development and product quality improvement
- Review our manufacturing specifications to identify materials needed for production.
- Research, source, and assess the best vendors to supply the necessary materials.
- Visit vendor facilities and observe the manufacturing environment to review and assess their procedures.
- Perform regular quality control audits to ensure vendors continue to work in compliance with company and federal standards.
- Review incoming supplies and products from vendors to check for defects and ensure quality.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to suppliers to reduce defect rates.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers
- Promote initiatives to improve quality
- Serve as a liaison between our engineering department and the vendors to identify quality issues and develop production efficiencies
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering. In lieu of degree minimum 5 years experience as an SQE and 3 years experience in vendor management
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical role
- Proven experience in manufacturing and working with vendor contracts.
- Excellent statistical analysis and quality assurance skills.
- Excellent analytical and technical skills with strong attention to detail
- In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of manufacturing and engineering.
- Experience with manufacturing and production processes and engineering principles.
- Ability to provide guidance to improve process efficiency.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong computer skills
